The Initiative for Integrity Award in Africa warmly congratulates the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary. This historic occasion offers both a moment of reflection and an opportunity to commend the country’s progress under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In particular, we celebrate President Tinubu’s bold economic, social, and governance reforms, which are setting Nigeria on a path of renewed growth and stability. Notable among these achievements are:

“Union Freedom vs. Business Growth: Should PENGASSAN Be Allowed to Force Private Refineries Into Its Union?Statement by Initiative for Integrity Award in Africa (IIAA) ”

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) compelling Dangote Refinery staff to join its union is deeply concerning.

Union membership should remain a matter of choice, not coercion. For example, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)—an umbrella body for university staff—cannot impose membership on private university lecturers at institutions such as Covenant University.

“New Secondary School Curriculum to Boost Academic Integrity — Call for Improved Welfare of Teachers and Lecturers ”

We commend the Federal Government on the release of the new secondary school curriculum, a landmark step that will significantly promote academic integrity, instill values of honesty, and uplift the quality of education across all levels of learning.

However, to maximize the impact of this reform, we encourage the Federal Government to also review and improve the salaries of teachers and lecturers — from primary and secondary schools to tertiary institutions. Adequate remuneration will motivate educators, curb unethical practices, and further strengthen integrity within our academic system. Sustaining academic integrity requires not only a robust curriculum but also a well-supported teaching workforce. Together, these measures will drive efficiency and credibility in the education sector.

“State Police: A Bold Step Towards Tackling Insecurity in Nigeria”

As an NGO committed to integrity and human security, we strongly recommend full support for the move to introduce State Police. This reform, if implemented, has the potential to reduce insecurity, empower governors to act decisively, and create a peaceful environment where citizens and farmers alike can thrive.
